The Eternal Word

John begins his Gospel with a profound treatise about the eternal nature and deity of Christ. Christ is described as the Word (John 1:1), who was with God and was God.
He is the one who made all things (John 1:3). Indeed, when you read Genesis 1, everything that was created was created by the Word of God! (Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 14, 20, 24, 26). That same Word will call all of creation to destruction at the last great day (Hebrews 12:26-27).
He is also the source of all life, both physical and spiritual. He gave us life when He created us, and He is the one who gives us life in Heaven with God (John 1:12-13).
His love for us brought Him into the world which He made, willing to suffer rejection and so much more that we might be redeemed (John 1:9-11).
